Avant-Garde Realism: Essay by Nicholas Rombes. Intro: "Today, the real has become the new avant-garde. Can we lay responsibility for the resurrection of reality at the doorstep of digital cinema? In what might be the supreme irony, it turns out that the re-emergence of realism in the cinema can be traced directly to a technological form that seems to represent a final break with the real.
