DESCRIPTION:monocon is an unconference that has been taking place since 2018. It features open workshops\, lectures and presentations. Content and schedule are developed by the participants based on their working fields\, knowledge and interests at the beginning of the conference. \nmonocon is organized by the international art-technology-philosophy collective monochrom\, founded in 1993. The group works with a wide variety of media and art formats and publishes the monochrom book and magazine series. \nThe group describes their way of working as »context hacking« and thus refers to the hacker culture\, which propagates a creative and emancipatory approach to the technologies of the digital age and thus opposes the extension of a centuries-old culture of technological knowledge and the expert hierarchies into the digital age. With its electronic mass media\, the democratization or socialization of the means of production seems feasible for the first time (without needing anything other than the technical revolution). \nContext hacking transfers the hackers’ claims and approaches to those social and societal conditions in which artistic production takes place and on which it in turn depends. In a metaphorical sense\, these also have a source code. They run programs that we face on a user interface. Angelehnt an das Prinzip des Tamagotchis-Effekts versucht ‘Perfect Happiness’ eine emotionale Verbindung durch das Füttern von Datenzucker herzustellen um diese zu steuern und zu kontrollieren.\nKathrin Hunze ist Medienkünstlerin und Meisterschülerin in Kunst und Medien mit Fokus auf generative Kunst und experimentellen Film an der Universität der Künste Berlin. Sie studierte Kommunikationsdesign mit Schwerpunkt zeitbezogene Medien und Soundesign an der Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg. Ihre audiovisuellen Arbeiten wurden unter anderem in Berlin\, Shanghai und New York ausgestellt. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. Im August 2021 war sie als Q21 Artist-in-Residence zu Gast im MuseumsQuartier Wien.

DESCRIPTION:Eskapismus im Schlaf\, im Vergessen und im Gedächtnisverlust. Schon Säuglinge reagieren auf Stresssituationen (z.B. Lärm) mit spontanem Einschlafen. Covid19 hat eine große Müdigkeit zur Folge. Tatsächlich Erkrankte leiden manchmal noch Monate danach an starken Fatigue-Syndromen. Aber auch die Gesellschaft als Gesamtkörper ist – wie in allen längeren Krisensituationen – mit Antriebslosigkeit\, Müdigkeit\, Schlafbedürfnis\, Depression konfrontiert. Im Schlaf verschließt man wörtlich die Augen vor der Realität. In Morpheus Armen wiegt sich der Mensch im Vergessen. Im Schlaf wird die Pausetaste gedrückt. Die aktive Wahrnehmung stoppt für eine Weile. Andere Erlebniswelten steigen aus dem Unterbewusstsein empor und übernehmen die Empfindungen.\nWährend Träume in ihrer psychoanalytischen und narrativen Qualität schon seit langem einen prominenten Platz in der Kunstproduktion (z.B. im Surrealismus) einnehmen\, scheinen sich nur wenige Künstler*innen für den Schlaf als Strategie des Vergessens zu interessieren. Dabei zeigen sich gerade hier grundlegende Affekte\, die sowohl Individuen als auch Gesellschaften betreffen. Die Nähe zur Amnesie\, dem Gedächtnisverlust\, ist offensichtlich. Wenn Schlaf zur Epidemie wird\, spricht man von Schlafkrankheit. Hierzu sind etwa die Überlegungen von Oliver Sacks zur Enzephalitis lethargica\, der großen europäischen Schlafkrankheit\, in seinem Buch Awakenings zu nennen.\nAMNESIA versammelt vier künstlerische Schlaf-Positionen abseits von Traum und dessen Symbolik.

DESCRIPTION:In der Ausstellung Positive Pressure setzt sich monochrom mit der COVID-Problematik\, betrachtet durch die Linse der amerikanischen Kolonialgeschichte und die Geschichte der HackerInnen-Bewegung\, auseinander. Ein kleines Makerlab in einer kleinen Stadt im Südwesten Colorados hatte im Zuge der Covid19 Pandemie eine Idee\, brachte 200 Menschen zusammen\, und rettete viele Leben\, vor allem in den stark betroffenen Navajo-Reservaten. Es ist ein einzigartige Geschichte\, denn sie verknüpft Vergangenheit und Gegenwart\, das Versagen von offiziellen Strukturen\, den befreienden Gedanken in Notsituationen als Community zusammenarbeiten zu können und auch die technische Finesse der Hackerspace-Leute\, die aus den ihnen zur Verfügung stehenden Materialien lebensnotwendige Technik bauen\, zeigt aber auch das Problem von solchen Communities auf.\nmonochrom ist ein internationales Kunst-Technologie-Philosophie-Kollektiv und wurde 1993 gegründet. Die Gruppe arbeitet mit den verschiedensten Medien und Kunstformaten und vertritt das Konzept des Context Hacking. Viele Projekte weisen performativen Charakter auf und bevorzugen kritische und diskursive Narrative.

DESCRIPTION:TRANSGRESSIVE CULTURES CONFERENCE\nCALL FOR PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS\nTHIS YEAR’S TOPIC FOCUS: THE MARQUIS DE SADE\nProposals are sought from both scholars and independent researchers on topics such as:\n•TRANSGRESSIVE ART\, FILM\, LITERATURE AND PERFORMANCE • EMERGENT PHILOSOPHIES OF TRANSGRESSION • RE-READINGS AND NEW APPROACHES TO TRANSGRESIVE PHILOSOPHY • EXPLORATIONS OF PORNOGRAPHY AND EROTICA • ABERRANT BEHAVIOR AND OUTSIDERS • ETC\nThis two-day conference will take place at the University of Chicago\, Paris\, on 5th and 6th of December\, 2019.\nWe are currently seeking abstracts and panel proposals (panels must be presented by a pre-existing group of collaborators) for the Transgressive Cultures conference. While we are seeking ‘papers’ exploring any aspect associated with transgressive cultures this year we are especially interested in proposals for papers on the works of the Marquis de Sade. We welcome papers on Sade as a writer\, as a philosopher\, or as inspiration for subsequent generations of transgressives.\nAbstracts and proposals should be no more than 250-words in length. For presentations a length of 30-40 minutes is desirable. Panel proposals should be approximately ninety minutes long.\nGiven the nature of the conference we are especially interested in alternative or expanded forms of presentation and performance\, readings\, short films\, and other forms of alternative practice are encouraged.\nDeadline for abstracts: October 1st 2019.\nJack Sargeant PhD\, conference convenor\, and Tom Garretson MA\, conference coordinator\, with the kind support of Sebastien Greppo and the University of Chicago\, Paris.

Als Rahmenprogramm bietet monochrom Vorträge über die wissenschaftliche Geschichte der Feststellung des Todes und die medizinische Kulturgeschichte der vorzeitigen Bestattung. Im Rahmen des Festival A Place to be – 50 Jahre Verein Symposion Lindabrunn wird monochrom erstmal seit 2015 wieder ein Buried Alive in Österreich durchführen! DESCRIPTION:Four days of exhibitions\, discussions\, workshops\, amusement and destruction\, with/by/for monochrom and its friends. Are there better ways to spend time in the Austrian countryside? Definitely not.\nWe will meet in Lindabrunn (Lower Austria) at VSL… August 29 (6:30 PM) to September 1\, 2019 (6:30 PM)!\nWhat is it?\nVerein Symposium Lindabrunn (VSL) was founded as a sculpture symposium around 50 years ago… and over the years they created a big sculpture park. There aren’t any sculptural artists wrong at VSL anymore\, but the location features all the infrastructure that is needed to live and work together\, including a lecture room for 30 people\, workspaces (both for office work and building stuff)\, and a big outdoor BBQ area. The central buildings are located beside a quarry (needed in former times to mine stones for sculptural work) and overlooks a big landscaped park area.\nHow to get to monocon?\nVSL is located around 60km south of Vienna\, in the municipality of Lindabrunn.\nBy plane\nVia Vienna International Airport (VIE)\, take a rental car from there. Or take the public transport (ÖBB) to Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn.\nIn case you want to arrive with your own Cessna: Wiener Neustadt Airport (QEW/LOAN) is 10 miles away.\nVia public transport\nNext train station with regular and frequent operation is Leobersdorf\, located on the southbound train line from Vienna to Wiener Neustadt. You can buy online tickets from OEBB. Note that only regional trains and Schnellbahn will stop at Leobersdorf. Change there to a local bus to Lindabrunn HTV. It will terminate directly at the entrance of the sculpture park at Steinbruchstraße. You can buy an online ticket for the whole route at once.\nBy car\nMap search: Steinbruchstraße 25\, Enzesfeld-Lindabrunn. There is one parking space at Steinbruchstraße located under shady trees\, but around 300m walking distance upwards to the building (driving up is restricted) and another one at Hernsteinerstraße\, mainly used for day visitors\, more sunny\, but almost on the same level as the building (50m to the building\, you just need to cross the grassland).\nWhere to stay?\nAccommodation we can recommend:\n* 20 tents are available directly at the sculpture park (full infrastructure at main building). Contact us to reserve one. If you want to bring your own mobile palace\, please check with us in advance.\n* Sportschule Lindabrunn: The dormitory of this school is within walking distance – around 1 km. By June 2019 around 30 rooms are available. New technologies are quick to appeal to pornography consumers\, and thus these customers represent a profitable market segment for the suppliers of new products and services. Currently\, all factors show that high-tech developments owe a great deal of their success to the need for further sexual stimulation. One could cite the example provided by the science-fiction concept of a full-body interface designed to produce sexual stimulation. But it isn’t science fiction anymore. It’s DIY.\nAs bio-hacking\, sexually enhanced bodies\, genetic utopias and plethora of gender have long been the focus of literature\, science fiction and\, increasingly\, pornography\, this year will see us explore the possibilities that fictional and authentic bodies have to offer. Our world is already way more bizarre than our ancestors could have ever imagined. But it may not be bizarre enough. “Bizarre enough for what?” — you might ask. DESCRIPTION:Mo 17. bis So 30. Juni: kontinuierliche künstlerische Symposiumsarbeit 29. Juni ab 17 Uhr: Präsentation der entstandenen Arbeiten und weiteres künstlerisches Programm.\n\n2019 feiert der Verein Symposion Lindabrunn sein 50-jähriges Bestehen. Gegründet wurde das Symposion an der Schnittstelle zwischen Akademischer Kunst\, dem Kunstmarkt und dem absoluten Freiraum. Mit dem Futurologischen Symposium Lindabrunn möchten wir den Gründungsgedanken des Symposions wieder aufgreifen und für 14 Tage KünstlerInnen nach Lindabrunn einladen\, um sich mit zukunftsweisenden Konzepten und Ideen alternativer Lebensformen\, wie dem Kunstformat „transbionica“\, dem Rezeptionsformat „didactica“\, dem „NomadMuseum“ oder den „CAL-Container-Art-Laboratories“\, die das umraum artcollectiv in den letzten 20 Jahren entwickelt hat\, auseinanderzusetzen. Darauf aufbauend erarbeiten die eingeladenen KünstlerInnen neue Objekte und Installationen für das Gelände des Symposions. Am Ende des zweiwöchigen Aufenthaltes werden diese Arbeiten in einem öffentlichen Abschlusssymposion vorgestellt und sollen als Wegweiser in die nächsten Jahrzehnte des Symposions dienen. Das Symposion Lindabrunn wird damit einmal mehr seiner Rolle als Schnittstelle zwischen Kunst in der Region und in der Stadt\, zwischen Vergangenheit und Zukunft und als Kommunikationsknotenpunkt gerecht.\n\nEin Projekt im Rahmen des Viertelfestival Niederösterreich – Industrieviertel 2019.\nU.a. teilnehmende Künstler_innen: Judith Fegerl\, Karin Frank\, Chri Strassegger\, Christoph Weber\nSymposiarch: Günther Friesinger
