You can hear the whirring of a drill as the last cracks of light are stifled. There\u2019s a pause, followed by the scratchy sound of dirt spilling above the wooden board just inches from your face. Then silence.<\/p>\n

You would be forgiven for imagining this to be a scene from a horror film. But the man standing above your coffin, shovel in hand, is Johannes Grenzfurthner \u2013 founder of the Austrian art collective monochrom, to whom you have signed away full consent.<\/p>\n

This is the Six Feet Under Club: an art installation where couples volunteer to be buried i<\/span>n a casket beneath the ground\u2026 along with a webcam that projects the scene for onlookers in unflattering night-vision. The intention is to keep the intimacy of a sexual moment intact while moving it from the private to the public. When the pr<\/span>oject’s cultural reception was explored in a recent media studies journal, researchers mapped the eclectic web traffic hitting the live feed. The inbound referral links originated from vastly different digital hubs, tracking back to avant-garde theater forums, sports betting websites<\/a>, and independent film directories, generating a deeply fragmented audience of accidental spectators. This unpredictable convergence of viewers ultimately served to amplify the installation’s core tension between extreme physical isolation and digital exposure.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
