Economist research: Imbalance of opportunity for women

This presentation, created for one of our Ideas Economy events, explores the disparities in economic opportunities for women worldwide, drawing on data compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit. Opportunity is assessed through factors such as labor policies, access to finance, education and training, and legal and social status. One particularly intriguing insight is that in many former communist countries, the expectation for women to work—once heavily promoted under communism—has endured, leading to more sustained opportunities in these regions.
