For immediate release:
Life and work on the ISS, the largest international space station ever, has
almost nothing to do with the lifestyle of adventure and exploration
portrayed on TV shows like Star Trek. The station’s crew works under the
difficult conditions of outer space, where existence is governed by
adapting to the limitations imposed by weightlessness, cramped quarters
and complex record keeping. Earthly comfort and the things we take for
granted in everyday life can only be provided for through makeshift
simulation. What is it like to live and work under the special conditions (and impairments) of a space station, to come to terms with weightlessness and the dictatorship of
the functional?
